Responsibilities

The NBCUniversal station in Chicago, broadcasting from the iconic Chicago NBC Tower, is a top three market station that operates the NBC (Local), Telemundo and the NBCSports Channels. This facility is undergoing transformational updates to become a state-of-the-art technology focused broadcast center.

NBC Chicago is looking for a Director of Production Operations who can play a lead role supporting multiple studios in producing live newscasts which involves both creative and technical input to the studio environment in parallel with supporting the on-air technical operations and media content teams. Strong leadership and day to day engagement with the Duopoly's Studio TV Directors team within an APC Program Control Room environment with distribution across multiple television, internet, mobile and OTT platforms is a primary function.

The position will play a key role in continuity and transformation of the facility workflows and operational tech. This is a challenging role which would suit someone able to manage multiple tasks, projects and complex technical information whilst retaining detail and best in class on-air focus in a high- pressure environment.

Job Responsibilities:
• Singular contact for day-to-day operations involving the Studios, APC, MOC, Media Management and Editors.
• Primary On-Air contact to NBC and Telemundo news teams along with the growing digital team.
• Work closely with team leaders and operations staff to cultivate and grow their leadership skills.
• Lead and support Supervisors and operations teams to execute use of all on-air technology, systems and operational workflows.
• Partner and liaise with all clients & units to ensure a flawless execution of all shows and contingencies.
• Lead and participate in key initiatives, implementing unified operational workflows, strategic planning and growth across all clients and business units.
• Partner with the Director of Technology to capture emerging technologies and integrate its use in the operation.
• Partner with Studio Operations Lead and external vendors and clients to maintain the production calendar.
• Serve all departments with a 'how can we help accomplish this' type of mentality as well as meeting regularly with the various stakeholder teams the role will support
• Responsible for hiring new team members.
• Build relationships with the group, help them to grow individually and provide them a chance to show what they are really capable of.
• Responsible for Performance Feedback as well as accountability and enforcement of established responsibilities and expectations.
• Big picture planning as we continually look for ways to improve our processes as applied to all aspects of our news operation as well as finding the best way to implement those changes.
• Coordinate and prepare for special events or other challenges for multiple clients
• Coordinate efforts with Studio operations Manager to remove obstacles to achieving on-air results

Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years studio or operations management in a Large News Network
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in live TV environment
• Strong working knowledge broadcast.
• Creative technologist of on-air solutions
• Detailed oriented and computer proficient.

• Must be willing to work in Chicago, IL
• Must have a flexible schedule with willingness to work overtime or any other time the job requires. This includes holidays, weekends, early mornings, late nights, or on short notice.

Desired Characteristics
• Understanding of HD broadcast signals, broadcast video playback systems, media archival systems
• Familiar with NRCS's in a production domain i.e. Dalet, Avid environment
• Ability to communicate effectively and work well with people while under pressure.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
• Technical aptitude and with a desire to deploy new innovative solutions to operational needs
• Process and detail oriented
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience working in a broadcast and/or digital newsroom environment
• Ability to quickly understand and size up opportunity and/or problems and respond with creative ideas and solutions
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently in a high pressure, breaking news environment
• Make priority decisions under deadlines
• Lead, manage and support a varied and diverse team
• A pioneering spirit with a desire to learn emerging technologies and invent the future
• Believes that teams are smarter and more dynamic together
• Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Information Technology, Media Management, Broadcast Engineering or related experience.
