JOB DESCRIPTION

The primary responsibility of this role is to provide business and legal affairs support to NBCUniversal's Formats business, which is part of Universal International Studios (''UIS''), a division of Universal Studio Group.

NBCUniversal Formats is the international sales division for all formats created within the production, broadcast and streaming divisions of NBCUniversal and Sky Studios, as well as select third parties. The division fosters an array of strategic alliance, co-production and co-development partnerships to bring new and existing content to the global market.

NBCUniversal Formats represents a vast and diverse slate of non-scripted and scripted formats. Leading brands include global success series Top Chef, hit game show Hollywood Game Night, Emmy Award-winning comedy showcase Saturday Night Live, global franchise The Real Housewives, entertainment formats World of Dance, Titan Games and Songland, factual entertainment shows The Secret Life of the Zoo and Best Parent?, in addition to scripted formats such as Suits, House, The Sinner, The Good Place and Superstore.

This role will report to VP of Business & Legal Affairs but will involve working with other members of the UK based central Business & Legal Affairs team, the Formats Sales & Production team and other business/legal teams across NBCUniversal.

The role will involve, among other things: the drafting and negotiation of format option and licence deals (and other ancillary paperwork); coordinating rights analyses and managing databases; supporting UIS compliance protocols and processes; and general contract and systems management support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Working with the Business & Legal Affairs team at UIS on all business and legal affairs matters relating to NBCUniversal's international format licensing.
• Drafting and negotiating options, licences, amendments and other documentation relating to the format licensing business with clients such as production companies, broadcasters and OTT platforms.
• Liaising with NBCUniversal's IP Group with regard to coordinating rights analyses and summarizing results.
• Providing administrative support to the Business & Legal Affairs team including: maintaining contract, rights and other tracking documents/databases (e.g. Salesforce); and managing the contract signature process (e.g. via DocuSign).
• Assisting with UIS compliance protocols and processes.
• Maintaining and updating agenda for weekly Business & Legal Affairs meetings.
• Building strong relationships with teams within UIS, such as Formats Sales & Production and Finance.
• Building strong relationships with Business & Legal Affairs teams across NBCUniversal including production entities within Universal Studio Group.
• Performing such other business and legal affairs-related tasks as needed and assigned by VP Business & Legal Affairs including diary management for VP of Business & Legal Affairs.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Paralegal, with some form of legal qualification (i.e. LLB or equivalent) but does not need to be a qualified solicitor. Consideration will be given to candidates with significant in-house legal/business affairs experience and/or equivalent qualifications from another common law jurisdiction.
• Strong educational background.
• Experience in dealing with contracts and legal documents, and an understanding of contractual language and licensing concepts.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment with a diverse and often heavy workload.
• Ability to identify, prioritise and manage urgent work assignments, and manage expectations in respect of other tasks.
• Confident, concise and persuasive verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with a range of personalities and establish effective relationships internally and externally.
• Highly organised and efficient with a meticulous attention to detail.

• Strong interest in learning about the international TV environment and the legal requirements associated with format development, licensing and production.
