Job Description

Responsibilities
• understand and execute the newscast mission, station priorities and be familiar with all platforms.
• work closely with writers, producers, assignment Editors, reporters and anchors to desktop edit, write, produce and gather content for all WCAU platforms.
• be knowledgeable about daily news events, have awareness of past news events, and understand what is news in the Philadelphia Market.
• be responsible for the overall coverage of stories on all platforms throughout the day including but not limited to Out-of-Home, web and broadcast.
• be a key communicator in the newsroom, talking with each person who will participate in or provide content for that newscast.
• collaborate with managers, digital team and assignment desk to deliver complete local news coverage that is both fair and accurate.
• Serve as key contributor of story ideas, participate in daily coverage decisions and take a leadership role in editorial meetings.
• write news scripts and edit video clips.
• Perform successfully under heavy deadline pressure without compromising accuracy and credibility.

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Willingness to join AFTRA as this position may be covered by the AFTRA collective bargaining agreement.
• Have experience editing video on a desktop editing system
• Ability to prioritize under deadline
• ability to deliver news content as it develops on all current and future platforms
• Team player mentality

Additional Job Requirements
• Must be able to provide a reel/portfolio of work examples. if available, include a web address when you submit your resume
• Must be willing to work in Philadelphia, PA
• Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice
• Must be 18 years or greater
• Must be willing to submit to a background investigation

Desired Characteristics
• Minimum 3 years experience in news gathering and/or production
• Minimum 3 years experience writing, producing and desktop editing
• Ability and desire to learn emerging technologies
• Strong journalistic skills
• Significant experience in the news environment
