Responsibilities

The NBC News Group's Consumer Insights team is responsible for developing a deep understanding of consumer trends and news audiences' perceptions and attitudes towards NBC News Group's brands to provide strategic and tactical guidance for the organization's decision-making.
Our team helps understand the ''whys'' behind ratings trends and provides insights into the evolving relationship consumers have with our news businesses across all linear and digital platforms-for MSNBC, CNBC, and NBC News (including TODAY, Nightly News, Meet the Press, Dateline, and NBC News NOW). By leveraging a wide array of quantitative tools (surveys, dial tests, advanced analytics, etc.) and qualitative methods (focus groups, online communities, content analysis, etc.), as well as syndicated research and social media monitoring, the News Group Consumer Insights team supports a broad range of internal stakeholders-including program and digital research & analytics, marketing, media, editorial, and business and product development-to help them shape, evolve, and grow our news businesses for the future.

The ideal candidate is an experienced, dynamic, and driven research professional with a passion for consumer insights and the media industry, and preferably, an interest in the news category on both linear and digital platforms. The candidate should have a talent for synthesizing multiple data sources into clear and persuasive stories with actionable insights, in order to engage, influence, and inspire cross-functional stakeholders at various levels.

Responsibilities:
• Represent the voice of the consumer within the news organization
• Collaborate to provide data-backed thought leadership on the consumer perspective to stakeholders throughout the organization
• Help connect the dots across various teams within the news organization based on a consistent understanding of our consumer audiences
• Help define research needs and manage custom qualitative and quantitative research projects from strategy through execution
• Identify vendors and assist with research design, execution, and analysis
• Mine social media insights and leverage syndicated data to add additional context to primary research findings and ratings analyses
• Develop, present, and socialize story-driven, executive-friendly presentations and POVs tailored to individual stakeholders
• Collaborate with and help support overall needs and goals of the Consumer Insights and broader NBC News Group Research team
• Play a role in elevating the Consumer Insights team's value, thought leadership, and influence within the news organization
• Build meaningful and rewarding relationships with research team members and stakeholders
• Assist with team administrative duties, including helping with the budget/invoice process, working with legal to manage vendor contracts, etc.

Qualifications

Requirements:
• 6+ years of experience in media or market research, including working for a client-side media company or market research supplier
• Demonstrated experience with quantitative research, including survey design, sampling plans and analysis across a range of quantitative methodologies
• Strong experience with analyzing qualitative research, including focus groups, in-depth interviews, and community panels
• Ability to learn various tools and interfaces for conducting research (programming surveys, manipulating and downloading data), monitoring social media, and visualizing data
• Ability to work autonomously and under pressure to keep projects moving forward
• Attention to detail, with the ability to maintain a strategic perspective
• Ability to synthesize key insights from multiple sources (primary and secondary) and succinctly share information for strategic decisions
• Excellent writing and storytelling skills to create visually compelling presentations that bring data and consumers to life
• Excellent verbal communication skills with an ability to adapt communications and level of necessary details to the audience

Desired Characteristics

Desired Qualifications:
• MBA or master's degree (preferably in business, communications, or social sciences)
• Previous market research project and vendor management experience
• Creative thinker and proactive problem solver
• A passion for understanding data in the context of news business trends and the broader cultural moment
