Job Description
Responsibilities

The NBC News Washington Bureau is looking for a highly motivated Researcher with a Passion for news on all platforms (broadcast, digital and mobile). In this position you will work directly with the Washington Assignment Desk Managers, producers, senior producers, and correspondents on futures planning and coverage.

Responsibilities
• Assist Desk Managers with planning and executing coverage
• Keep detailed calendar of upcoming major events
• Produce daily notes of upcoming events
• Interact with Press contacts on the Hill and Government Agencies
• Coordinate the gathering and feeding of news materials
• Assist in breaking news & on-going story coverage through internet research and phone calls
• Utilize a variety of research platforms [pacer-court documents; Accurint etc.] to support newsgathering
• Help monitor social media sites, affiliates, & the web often and as needed
• Assist the newsgathering team with phone inquiries, data entry and other requests
• Other responsibilities may change depending on breaking news and scheduling
• Monitor competitive broadcasts, cable and digital platforms

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements
• Must have at least one year of editorial production experience at a network, cable or digital outlet.
• Must have a Bachelors' degree.
• Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news.
• Must be able to work additional hours beyond scheduled shift with little or no notice if needed.
• Must be willing to work weekends and holidays
• Must have a valid Driver's License

Desired Characteristics
• Knowledge of NBC News programs, on-air correspondents, policies, guidelines and practices
• Knowledge and experience using AVID iNews
• Demonstrated strong knowledge and interest in news and current events
• Strong journalistic writing skills, research skills, and editorial judgment
• Ability to multitask under pressure and in a stressful, deadline driven environment where teamwork is fostered
• Excellent time management skills

This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of 3 days per week.
