Job overview:
The NBC News and MSNBC Audio is seeking an audio engineer and sound designer to work across series and shows in the portfolio. This person will play a crucial role in establishing audio best practices in a new and growing unit. They will be instrumental in sound designing and mixing new original podcasts and in consulting with engineers and producers on the sound of other projects. This person should have a fluency in technical aspects of audio production for both in person and remote recordings. We are looking for a detail-oriented team player who wants to help NBC News and MSNBC podcasts sound their best. Music composition skills and experience are a plus!

Responsibilities:
- Train producers in Pro Tools and recording best practices and show-specific production processes
- Work in tandem with producers and hosts as the story develops to create the best over-all sound experience
- Audio restoration of poor quality audio
- Dialogue editing and cleanup, including clip gain leveling, crossfading, de-noising, and smoothing edits in preparation for final mix
- Arrange scoring in the show assembly and work on music for tone and pacing
- Balance short-term and long-term projects
- Maintain studios and help manage team audio software and plugin updates
- Oversee remote and in person recordings and advise on best practices
- Ability to communicate calmly and effectively across departments and within teams through rounds of edits
- Assist in the identifying and hiring of freelance engineers to work on additional projects
- Manage freelance audio engineers hired to support limited series or seasonal podcast offerings

Qualifications/Requirements
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience as an audio engineer or equivalent position, podcast or broadcast environment preferred
- Expertise in Mac OS, Pro Tools, iZotope RX and other plug-ins
- Thorough understanding of recording studio technology, audio production workflows and remote connection techniques and utilities
- Rhythmic ear for arranging sound elements
- Comfortable working with music libraries
- Ability to collaborate with producers on story
- Willingness to make creative decisions to enhance the product
- Expert time management skills and the ability to work under deadline pressure in a stressful environment
- Ability to work remotely to record, edit, and mix audio
- Familiarity with the necessary audio equipment required for a specific recording
- Familiarity with the community of audio engineers to help team identify and hire talent
- Ability to help onboard new engineers and define production workflows
- Ability to work with high profile talent and guests and make them feel comfortable
