Coordinator, Publicity (National Geographic)

At National Geographic, we are looking for a talented Publicity Coordinator to join our Communications team in support of our editorial portfolio. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, can collaborate with the team, and has a desire to learn the ins and outs of strategic communications. The position will support the daily PR and administrative operations for Nat Geo Content's editorial portfolio, which includes the iconic National Geographic magazine, natgeo.com content, Nat Geo Kids and Family franchise, Nat Geo Travel, bookazines, social media, and other content. The coordinator will report directly to the Sr. Manager, Communications, who reports to the Director, Communications, and the role includes researching and compiling media lists, tracking coverage, assisting with awards submissions, compiling coverage reports, posting releases to the pressroom, processing invoices, etc.

Responsibilities:
• Compile and maintain media lists, track daily and weekly media coverage, create comprehensive media reports for projects, and keep all materials up to date.
• Support the Sr. Manager and Director with various administrative needs such as schedule meetings, manage expense reports, book travel, process invoices, etc.
• Track awards and nominations for National Geographic's Editorial team; assist with submission process and track wins.
• Perform in-depth research to support communications and messaging.
• Work with photo, video, and Legal counterparts to vet approved press materials for projects; organize materials into folders for international partners' use.
• Assist with media interviews and other support as necessary, including travel, on a project-by-project basis.
• Manage the department's communications press room inbox and voicemail daily; contribute to the team's PR social media accounts.
• Support the team on specific projects as needed, including pitching content, brainstorming ideas, staffing events, gathering assets, coordinating mailings, compiling market research, etc.
• Prep meeting agendas and meeting notes as necessary.
• Place orders for needed press materials.
• Help manage visuals clearance process for the team.
• Assist with events, as needed, as well as assist with travel bookings, draft itineraries, create briefing documents, etc.

Basic Qualifications:
• 1+ years of experience in communications, public relations, media or similar.
• Knowledge and passion for news media including print, digital, broadcast, radio, social media.
• Experienced preparing media lists.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at once and to work independently.
• Capacity to work with minimal daily supervision and the ability to exercise strong independent judgment.
• Must be proactive, reliable, resourceful, and have great attention to detail.
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks, change priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Excellent verbal and writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience preparing media lists using Muckrack or Cision.

Required Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Communications or Journalism or equivalent work experience.
