Responsibilities
MSNBC is hiring a Senior Operations Producer to lead our organization's staff scheduling and operations efforts. Our dynamic newsroom with hundreds of employees is committed to fairness, transparency, and equitable treatment of all our team members. Fulfilling our mission of producing an industry-leading cable news product requires a clear and consistent scheduling approach. The ideal candidate is highly organized, has experience managing schedules for large, complex organizations that include both represented and non-represented team members. This position reports to the Senior Vice Presidents of News and Perspective Programming.
Responsibilities:
• Manage staff schedule for MSNBC Reports & MSNBC Weekends newsroom teams using a shared central resource (WorkSchedule.net)
• Train and work with team leaders in the use of our scheduling tools, policies, and compliance requirements to manage team time off and scheduling needs
• Train new team members in the use of our scheduling tool, time off request system
• Work with senior leaders to identify staffing needs
• Work with senior leaders to staff breaking news and extended programming moments
Qualifications/Requirements
• College degree or equivalent professional experience
• Previous experience managing staff scheduling for a
large, diverse team utilizing a centralized, scheduling tool
(like WorkSchedule.net)
• Excellent analytical skills, as a scheduling manager will
be required to analyze information from a variety of
sources
• Ability to effectively work within a team with the ability to
manage the newsroom workload effectively
• Excellent and strong negotiation and persuasion skills, to
facilitate schedule management in line with
organizational needs
• Sound communication skills, both written and verbal
• Adequate computer knowledge, including the use of
spreadsheets and databases
• Organization and self-management skills to manage and
lead a project accurately and effectively
• A true 'people person' who enjoys meeting new people
and building relationships that benefit the overall
organization
Additional Job Requirements:
• Must be willing to work in our offices in New York, NY
• Must be willing to work occasional weekend and
early/late hours based on breaking news needs.
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the
United States.
• Must be willing and able to work under tight deadline
pressure.
Desired Characteristics
• 5+ years of experience in media / journalism
• Previous experience working with teams that are
represented by unions
