Software Developer (Mid) - Shotwork (Houdini/FX)

The Moving Picture Company (MPC) has been a global leader in visual effects (VFX) for over 25 years and counting, with established facilities across the globe. We are renowned for adding visual wonder and creative expertise to the film, advertising and entertainment industries, with some of our most famous projects including the blockbuster movies Blade Runner 2049, The Jungle Book, The Lion King and The Martian, and advertising campaigns for Channel 4, Sony and IKEA.

MPC is part of Technicolor's premiere portfolio of VFX brands and services, working alongside Mr. X and Mikros to provide offerings tailored to the specific creative and storytelling needs of each project. Within this collective, MPC has built a reputation for industrial-scale production of images, and the software development to enable this.

Primary Responsibilities
• Work with a mix of local and remote Team Members to ensure realistic planning, scheduling, and regular deliveries of the results to internal clients
• Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of our Houdini integration, and both related and unrelated simulation tools and frameworks
• Work with senior and lead developers to improve and conform tools and workflows to a global roadmap and to emergent show necessities
• Produce documentation and support users in the maintenance phase, and contribute to demonstration during exploratory phases

Qualifications

Essential skills are those you have matured professionally, or have been practicing personally for a length of time and can demonstrate achievements in (e.g. personal repository, demos etc.)
• Proven experience in a creative industry in a technical role (Film, Episodic, Commercials, AA or AAA games)
• Technical STEM Degree, or equivalent applied knowledge
• A strong understanding of FX workflow and the constituents of high-quality shots
• An understanding of the mathematical fundamentals of simulation
• Knowledge of Houdini's API and Scripting options (Python SDK and Vex)
• Intermediate or better knowledge of Python and/or C++, and a willingness to approach the other under guidance
• Able to work in a multi-cultural, multi-site large organization
• Willingness to work in a structured development environment (Version Control, Issue tracking, task tracking etc.)
