Job Description
OverviewSummary The Special Assistant to Scouting will touch all areas of player evaluation within Domestic Scouting operations covering both professional and amateur players. Evaluation will be done both in person and via video. The Special Assistant to Scouting will be heavily involved in the decision-making processes and represent the collective scouting opinions of the department. In addition, they will be responsible for helping maintain staff connection. Regular travel is required. Responsibilities will vary based on time of year.

• Lead evaluator for players from both professional and amateur baseball.
• Draft and share scouting reports in scouting system for players covered by assigned deadlines.
• Build relationships across Domestic Scouting Department to maintain staff connection.
• Provide input to the decision processes in both professional and amateur spaces.
• Provide information on player signability during the draft process by leveraging relationships with players, coaches, families, and agents.
• Consult with Vice President, Domestic Scouting and Coordinator, Scouting Operations on scheduling and coverage for professional and amateur games, leagues, and events.
• Provide detailed and timely recommendations on available players of interest (waivers, designated for assignment(DFA), free agents, released players, independent leagues, amateurs, workouts/tryouts, etc.) as directed by Vice President, Domestic Scouting.
• Partner with front office and domestic scouting supervisors on hiring domestic scouts, as needed.
• Guide team members of the scouting department in evaluation practices.

• A minimum of 10 years' experience in scouting is preferred
• Strong relationship building skills to build relationships with players, families, advisors, coaches, and staff
• Ability to collect, consolidate, and present large amounts of information
• Ability to evaluate and report on all forms of amateur and professional talent
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills
To perform the job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and Internet Explorer, as well as Database software.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Travel Requirements
The employee must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle and to drive long distances to attend games. In addition, the employee is required to make selected trips by air and must be able to walk significant distances with luggage, board & deplane aircraft.
Work Hours
Work hours will vary dramatically with the assigned scouting coverage and travel schedule.
