Job Summary

Maxis is looking for a talented engineer that can amplify our ability to rapidly develop our games with the help of automation. This engineer will work with an experienced team that has collectively built almost all Maxis games in the past two decades. You will actively work with engineering, art, design, and quality verification groups to prototype and ship various features that expand the featureset of Sims games. Most of the work is expected to be done in Unreal Engine, both in C++ and blueprints.

As a Game Automation Engineer for a game at Maxis, you will
• Implement quality control tools, test automation and analysis systems for various stages in the creation of a Sims game.
• Enable the designers, producers, artists, and other engineers.
• Demonstrate excellent technical problem-solving skills under iteratively changing requirements during game development.
• Author technical design documents detailing software requirements.
• Be a critical partner to driving innovation in tools and processes to achieve the highest quality standards. Use appropriate programming and scripting languages to design, develop, and maintain automation test tools; statistical analysis and dashboards; and other tools that help drive quality in our products.

Qualifications

• Bachelor/Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
• 5+ year experience in a hands-on development role.
• Demonstrate impact of past projects in game or tools automation.
• Demonstrate technical abilities with large projects implemented in C++.
• Hands-on experience with the automation frameworks for commercial game engines. E.g. Unreal Engine's Gauntlet, Unity Automation Framework.
• A strong understanding of testing methodologies.
• Experience with building test strategies for web, mobile, or software products.
• Experience with web, database and automation technologies.
• Hands on experience building and shipping AAA games in Unreal engine.
• Experience developing for large-scale live products. Products that constantly update to provide higher quality, and feature set to expand the possibilities in the game.
• Experience working in highly collaborative environments with multidisciplinary roles beyond engineering like design, production, art and product management.
• Experience working with and/or setting up device farms for software testing at scale.
• Experience with Windows platform and development tools.

Pluses
• Experience with Appium or Selenium framework.
• Experience with cross platform automation (PC, console, mobile).
• Experience developing in C# and Python.
• Experience developing for both PC and Mobile platform games.
• Demonstrable experience showcasing the customer focus to network successfully across a large number of game development roles, to build and maintain excellent relationships and communications channels.
• Demonstrate experience working in large data-driven games or applications.
• Experience with build automation systems like Jenkins.
• Experience using static and performance analysis tools, automated testing, unit testing, and configuration management processes.
• Experience optimizing performance and memory of real time applications (like games).

US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.

BASE SALARY RANGES
• California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento):
• $130,250 - $199,400
• New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo):
• $120,450 - $199,400
• Jersey City, NJ:
• $147,400 - $199,400
• Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs):
• $120,450 - $161,750
• Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane):
• $120,450 - $188,600

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby (following 1 year of service), medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
