Job Description
As an Experience Designer with Maxis, you will report to the Development Director. You will partner with engineers, game designers, researchers, and producers to develop user interfaces, iconography, and related systems.Location: Redwood City. This is a hybrid role onsite a studio 3 days/week.
Responsibilities
• Drive user-centered design processes to provide outstanding design solutions for Maxis games.
• Partner with your XD Lead, engineering, game design, and production team.
• Be a promoter of usability, inclusiveness, and accessibility.
• Maintain and adhere to an existing comprehensive design system.
• Be a promoter of usability, inclusiveness, and accessibility.
• Drive design solutions that are informed by player data (quantitative and qualitative).
• Craft UX artifacts: experience maps, flows, wireframes, and prototypes.
• Produce mocks and visual artifacts.
• Implement UI in game engine.
• Architect player flows, screens, content, and states that promote ease of use and are engaging while balancing player, business and technical goals.
• Partner with various team members to find balanced design solutions to player and business goals within technical constraints.
Qualifications
• At least 4 years of UX/UI experience as a UX designer, visual designer, UI artist, product designer or similar role. Your experience includes some combination of: game and non-gaming products, live service and/or social networks.
• A portfolio demonstrating user-centered designs across multiple digital products. Creating research and data-informed designs that meet player needs and their motivations.
• Experience with user research methodologies and user data analysis (quantitative and qualitative).
• Knowledge of usability principles and designing for accessibility, diversity, and inclusivity.
• Strong visual design skills (i.e., composition, iconography, layout, typography, color theory).
• Familiarity with technical UI authoring frameworks and experience implementing in engine.
• Experience with end to end project development through from the UX and UI phase.
• You understand the importance of providing and soliciting feedback in a graceful, constructive manner, with suggestions and solutions for improvement to both process and project.
• Passion for playing and/or making games, with an interest to understand what makes them fun and engaging.
• Comfortable presenting cohesive design approaches to non-design audiences.
• Proficiency in modern design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Sketch, etc.
• Familiarity with The Sims 4, The Sims franchise and/or the life simulation genre.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). BASE SALARY RANGES
• California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento)
• $103,200 - $145,600 USD
In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
