Job Description
The VFX Supervisor is responsible for the overall management of the CG production on the show and for guiding the Director(s) in the execution of the film. They must translate the Directors' and Production Designers' creative vision into an action plan, including workflows, tech initiatives, staffing plans, artistic goals and pipeline evolution. The VFX Supervisor is a leader of leaders and will be called upon to foster a collaborative, healthy and inclusive team and studio culture.



Requirements:
Responsible for creating the necessary look as designed by the Director(s) and Production Designer(s) within budget parameters. This includes partnering with the Director(s) at launches and approvals to ensure that creative goals and technical requirements are met.
Supervise early CG visual development & provide input to create feasibility for the production.
Offer suggestions and alternatives during dailies or other creative reviews that may help the Director(s) achieve their desired vision within the production/budget process.
Partner with production management to make sure that the requests from the Director(s) are prioritized and provide solutions that can be accomplished within the production schedule.
Develop looks and give direction to artists on shots and assets, including aesthetic and methodological feedback.
In conjunction with CG Supervisors, is responsible for ensuring that the pipeline is in place and providing the efficient work environment for the team.
Highlight the cost implications of requests to help the Producer make informed decisions about budgets.
Responsible for visual complexity of the film.
Responsible to Production leadership for the overall schedule.

Leading People:
Creates an inclusive and safe work environment by carefully managing sensitive information, making rooms feel open and comfortable, creating space for everyone to have a voice, and addressing bias when it occurs.
Guides the creative and technical vision/expectations for the team members.
In tight conjunction with Production Management, and Department Managers, inspires and motivates the project team.
Contributes to the overall craft and development of team members through setting expectations, delivering consistent constructive feedback, recognition, and accountability.

Collaboration & Communication:
Take lead in interdepartmental integration and communication. Arbitrate decisions when there is disagreement. Provide continuity and unity across the CG teams.
Models and fosters a collaborative work environment between individuals on the various teams and across departments.
Identifies solutions and compromises in partnership with their direct reports and Production leadership.
Provides regular updates to Production and Studio leadership on the progress, health, and direction of the team.
Keeps the team informed with context for show related changes and updates.

Studio Stewardship:
Actively fosters an inclusive, innovative, and collaborative environment so every employee can contribute at the highest levels.
Engages in the consultation of technical standards, pipeline conventions, and workflows to support the department, show, and studio.
Partners closely with peers and Department Managers to support an environment of creativity, trust, and innovation.

Qualifications:
Minimum 5-years of work experience as a VFX Supervisor, CG Supervisor, Technical Supervisor or other production department head on animated film(s) or long-form animated series.
Extensive knowledge of CG pipelines and workflows.
Thorough understanding of the process of animation filmmaking
Experience with the recruitment, training and supervision of CG artists.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
A demonstrable blend of technical and artistic skills.
A body of work that displays good creative instincts and attention to detail.
Ability to negotiate and navigate challenging situations and competing priorities.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer graphics, film, or fine art is a plus.
