Job Summary/Description:
KY3, the dominant number one television station in Springfield, MO is looking to hire a photojournalist with experience in shooting news video. We are looking for a hard worker who loves the outdoors and is passionate about video photography and storytelling. Must be willing to help brainstorm ideas, shoot active live shots and creative standups. Must be able to shoot stories with a reporter and on your own. We want someone who loves to shoot creative local videos and doesn't use a lot of file or meeting shots. This photojournalist will also shoot video and pictures during breaking news for on-air and our digital properties. We need an aggressive go-getter who isn't afraid to walk up to people or be in the middle of active scenes.
Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:
• Gather, shoot, edit and help write news stories for on-air and online in the most accurate, appealing, timely and creative way using all sources available
• Be willing to learn how to run live shots from a phone, iPad, live box (TVU/Dejero), live truck and satellite truck
• Be able to shoot ''live'' on the scene quickly, efficiently and get information back to the station in a timely manner
• Be aggressive about gathering information and interviews in the field when necessary
• Communicate clearly with the team back at the station and in the field
• Must be able to shoot video in sequences that tell a story
• Must be able to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Have experience with or be willing to train on: Grass Valley Edius and professional cameras; must be able to use non-linear editing equipment daily
• Demonstrate sound news judgement
• Participate in story selection process in meetings and regularly contribute story ideas
• Help post and regularly update stories to the KY3 digital properties including social media, streaming and web
• Must follow set clothing guidelines
• Evenings, weekends and holidays may be required. On-call shift every few months is required
• Strong initiative and attention to detail is required
• Must know or be willing to learn about appropriate lighting to enhance overall news presentation for live shots and in interviews
• Must possess a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, roads, and history
• Must be good at following maps/GPS
• Must have a great driving record and be able to operate station vehicles daily
• Drone knowledge/training is a plus; or be willing to train and test
• Perform other job duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Must be 18 years-old or older
• Bachelor's or master's degree in journalism or related field is a plus
• Experience shooting for news on-air or digitally is a preferred
• Basic experience with computers, editing and and newsroom computer systems is preferred (ENPS, Grass Valley Edius)
• Candidates must successfully complete an MVR check
• Must have unrestricted work authorization in the United States
