Job Summary/Description:

KXII News 12, the longtime #1 station in the Texoma region, is seeking an experienced assistant news director to work behind the scenes leading, training and developing news staff to maintain market dominance and help lead its news operation to new heights.

The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

ˑ Serve as manager-in-charge in absence of news director in making content decisions and enforcing policies
ˑ Assist news director in recruiting and interviewing candidates
ˑAssist news director in planning, developing and executing special projects
ˑ Teaching, training and mentoring anchors, reporters and producers
ˑ News producing
ˑ Newswriting (both digital and broadcast)
ˑ Video editing
ˑ Coordinating with producers and news crews in the field
ˑ Coordinating live shots
ˑ Corresponding with network and regional producers at other stations sending & receiving materials
ˑ Assisting in answering the station's news tip hotline calls and emails
ˑ Assist news staff in posting and updating breaking news on digital platforms
ˑ Assist news staff in updating and maintaining station social media accounts

Qualifications/Requirements:

▶ Minimum three years newsroom experience. Anchoring, producing, or assignment desk experience preferred. Must be a strong news writer, competent problem-solver, quick thinker, and good communicator. Must work well under pressure and on deadline. Knowledge of electronic news gathering & non-linear editing required. Knowledge of broadcast and digital newswriting, as well as social media best practices required. Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field preferred.
