Job Description
KTXL is looking for a photographer who can identify and capture stories in the fast-paced television news environment. You will be asked to gather stories teamed up with reporters and also on your own. We strive for National Press Photographer Association principal storytelling. You will be asked to identify stories, chase breaking news, troubleshoot on the fly, work well as a team, and push the boundaries of video production innovation.
REQUIREMENTS
• Proficiency with electronic news gathering cameras, preferably SONY/JVC
• General ENG operation, maintenance, and safety
• Satellite Truck/ENG Truck safety training
• LIVE U or similar mobile data based transmission
QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree in television production, journalism, or communications desired
• Minimum 2 years experience as television news photojournalist/video journalist
• Experience operating live microwave truck
• Experience operating satellite truck desired
• Experience operating drone/UAS part 107 desired
• Experience with LiveU or similar data based transmission
• LIVE U or similar mobile data based transmission
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Shoot video and gather news stories, either teamed up with a reporter or working on your own
• Edit packages and VOSOTs in the field and at the station
• Operate live cameras in the newsroom, studio, or remote locations
• Have extensive knowledge of professional lighting, audio, video, cable maintenance, etc.
• Gather factual information to support news stories
• Maintain camera gear, light kits, vehicles, computers, edit systems, etc.
• Additional duties as necessary
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• W orking knowledge of editorial standards
• Must demonstrate solid news judgment
• Non-linear editing skills. FCPX or Adobe experience preferred
• Experience with MacBook Pro desired
• Must be able to work well under deadline pressure
• Ability and willingness to write stories as needed
• Be able to tell stories with both video and sound
• Must be creative with strong editing skills
• Must have attention to detail with great accuracy
• Must have (or be able to acquire) a valid California driver's license
• News is 24/7. We need video journalists who can work any shift
• Willingness to travel with little to no notice and work overtime
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
• Must be a team player and work well with others
• Reports directly to Chief Photographer and takes direction on assignments from news managers and assignment editors
• Represent the station to the community in a professional manner
• Contribute story ideas at daily editorial meeting
• Relay information from the field back to station promptly and clearly
Compensation - $20.00+/hr
