Job Summary/Description:

Alaska's News Source is seeking an experienced reporter who is a great storyteller and adept at covering breaking news. This position requires delivering daily news stories for digital and broadcast, delivered with integrity, accuracy and quality. The top candidate will be a strong journalist, great communicator and a positive leader inside and outside the newsroom as well as adventurous in spirit and willing to travel across the state on assignment, as needed, for breaking news and feature storytelling. Anchor fill-in work on is also expected.

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Research, gather, write and report news stories for on-air and online in the most accurate, appealing, timely and creative way using all sources
• Report ''live'' on the scene, especially during breaking news
• Conduct interviews in the field and in studio
• Shoot, write and edit video and sound daily for broadcast and digital platforms on deadline
• Operate broadband equipment for coverage, as needed
• Develop and maintain sources of information and knowledge about assignments
• Demonstrate sound news judgment, collaborate with others to present the story
• Enterprise hard-news, research-driven packages under tight deadlines
• Pitch stories daily through the story pitch process and work directly with the assignment desk and Managing Editor to develop the stories to fruition daily
• Attend/host/speak at community service, schools, and community events; meet and greet viewers
• Post and update stories on the web, often remotely while traveling
• Provide news content for social media, including Facebook, and interact with viewers
• Possess a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, things, and history
• Enter scripts, CG text and times into newsroom software (ENPS) prior to newscasts
• Use knowledge of appropriate field lighting to enhance overall news presentation
• Critique, feedback, and training are part of the job
• Communicate regularly with the digital staff and other appropriate staff members during breaking news
• Follow clothing and appearance guidelines
• Must be a visual storyteller; perform creative stand-ups and explanatory live shorts
• Serve as a fill-in anchor on newscasts and digital platforms, as assigned
• Evenings, weekends and holidays may be required
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

• 3+ years of experience in broadcast industry
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or other related field
• Experience with broadcast/digital cameras, newsroom software (ENPS), and non-linear editing (Grass Valley Edius experience a plus)
• Be able to write in a clear, concise, conversational manner
• Must possess excellent interview and conversational writing skills
• Excellent live reporting skills and strong on-camera presentation skills required
• Basic computer knowledge including newsroom software (such as ENPS), Microsoft applications and internet use
• Able to produce and post content to digital platforms
• Intermediate knowledge of social media
• Must be able to work independently with limited supervision
• Work well in a team environment
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
• Strong initiative and attention to detail is required
• Demonstrate solid news judgment and journalistic ethics (SPJ Code of Ethics)
• Maintain professional and ethical conduct at the station and in the community
• Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving in a manner that will work well with co-workers, supervisors and viewers/online news consumers
• Strong research skills, including the ability to navigate on-line search engines
• Must stay current with national and local news
• Ability to enterprise local, hard-news stories
