Job Summary/Description:
The Producer is responsible for producing newscasts for broadcast, including gathering and writing content, writing news scripts, editing copy, ordering graphics to fit stories, coordinating live-shots, communicating with anchors and production staff during live broadcasts and directing reporters and photographers on deadline to meet the needs and vision of the newscast. The Producer also creates content for digital platforms, answers phones, deploys breaking news crews, makes calls to generate content and covers the Assignment Desk/Digital Desk, as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities include but not be limited to:
* Strong initiative and persistent attention to detail is required
* Be able to write clearly and accurately with great grammar
* Produce newscasts including stacking, writing scripts, editing copy, ordering graphics to fit stories, making maps, coordinating live shots with directors, production staff, reporters, and photographers
* Must be able to work well under deadline pressure
* Write copy for broadcast and digital platforms daily, including gathering information by phone, Zoom or in person, as needed
* Must be able to write in a clear, concise, and conversational manner
* Strong research skills, including the ability to navigate online search engines and use Social Media daily
* Must enterprise and pitch hard-news, research-based stories daily
* Must maintain professional and ethical conduct at the station and in the community
* Basic computer knowledge including newsroom software (ENPS), Microsoft applications and Internet use
* Ability to work well with others and independently with limited supervision
* Must be professional and courteous with the public, answer phones, book guests for the newscast, and greet guests who have arrived to appear on-air
Qualifications/Requirements:
* 1-2 years experience in broadcast news and producing preferred
* College degree is required. Journalism or a related field is preferred
* Must hold a valid driver's license and a good driving record
* Must be willing to work flexible hours, including overnight, evening, weekends and holidays, as assigned
* Meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
* Must have the desire and willingness to be at work during big breaking news, weather coverage, and special events
