About KSFY/KDLT:

Aberdeen is home to nearly 30,000 people. Known locally as the Hub City, it is a regional center for business, healthcare, education, shopping and more for the northeastern part of South Dakota, and parts of southern North Dakota. Dakota News Now opened a NEW news bureau in Aberdeen in late 2022, providing a new workspace for our multimedia journalists who work in this region.

KSFY/KDLT is an award-winning television operation serving viewers in the eastern half of South Dakota as well as portions of southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa. The stations operate from a new studio in downtown Sioux Falls as one rebranded organization called Dakota News Now. The facilities put Dakota News Now on the cutting edge of television and news gathering technology, making it one of the most state-of-the-art television stations in the market and the region. The Dakota News Now team produces more than 36 hours of news each week. Some of our employees have been here for more than 25 years. For others, this is their first job out of college. It's a great mix that gives us different perspectives while covering the news. People here enjoy the work they do, and everyone steps up to the plate during major news events like breaking news and severe weather.

Job Summary/Description:

Dakota News Now is looking for a full-time multimedia journalist for our news bureau in Aberdeen, South Dakota. We are looking for a self-starter; someone who likes working on their own. We want someone who can connect with the community, understands quality storytelling and is able to gather their own content. The ideal candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to work under a deadline.

You will be running a one-person newsroom covering northeastern South Dakota, so organizational and communication skills are critical. Planning is essential. You will be responsible for shooting, writing, voicing, and editing stories for television and internet. You should also be skilled in social media. Live reports will also be expected.

The ideal candidate must be able to work odd hours to complete assigned stories and cover breaking news. You must be able to carry 35 to 45 pounds of equipment. A valid driver's license as well as a safe driving record is necessary.

Qualification/Requirements:
• ️ Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, English or related field of study required. Experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
