Are you ready to take your journalism career to the next level? KRIS, the Scripps-owned station in Corpus Christi, TX, is looking for a dynamic Multimedia Journalist to join our news team. This position is open due to an internal promotion, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow their skills and advance their career in a supportive environment.
As a Multimedia Journalist at KRIS, you'll be on the front lines of local news coverage, telling the stories that matter most to our South Texas viewers across all platforms.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
• Develop compelling story ideas from news leads, news tips, and community events
• Gather and verify factual information through interviews, observation, and research
• Organize material and write stories following prescribed editorial style and format standards
• Shoot video and still photos to illustrate your stories
• Edit videos for broadcast and digital platforms
• Appear on television for taped interviews and narration
• Deliver live reports from the field and mobile broadcast units
• Work cooperatively with photographers when assigned to your stories
• Assist news producers in preparing newscasts
• Collaborate with the digital team to create content for multiple platforms
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
• BS/BA in Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent years of experience preferred
• Generally, 3+ years of experience in related field preferred
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
• Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
• Proficiency with newsroom computer systems
• Experience with videography and non-linear editing
• Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment
• Ability to edit on Final Cut Pro or similar systems
• Skills in posting content to various websites
• Self-motivation and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Driving required. Valid Driver's License, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
