General Assignment Reporter

Job Description

KOMO-TV Seattle has an opening for an experienced temporary general assignment reporter. This position will last 80 days. If you're a committed, passionate journalist who thrives on breaking great original stores on multiple platforms, KOMO News is the fit for you.

This individual will enterprise stories and gather information for newscasts, have strong writing skills, a solid work ethic and exhibit professionalism in all aspects of the job. You must provide examples of excellent reporting and live shot skills and prove you thrive on breaking stories. This is not a feature reporter slot---we want someone who's committed to hard news and strong accountability journalism.

Three to five years reporting experience preferred.

• A record of developing and maintaining community news sources
• Creative vision, voice and impeccable editorial integrity
• Ability to work effectively with sharp deadlines, adjust smoothly to changing assignments
• Ability to juggle multiple assignments both short and long-term
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with all members of the KOMO team
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Flexible and able to handle multiple tasks
• Strong on-air and communication skills in breaking news coverage
• Write stories for air and digital platforms
• Regularly post content and engage with audiences on social media platforms

Day-to-day responsibilities:
• Stay abreast of overnight developments on local, regional and statewide stories
• Communicate with news managers on stories in active development and pitches that can be turned that day
• Self-reliant and responsible for enterprising stories, setting-up interviews and shooting locations
• Collaborate with photographer on assignments including, but not limited to, pulling necessary file footage, sound and images for story assignment
• Clearly communicate with photographer story assignment and structure of the day
• Conduct insightful, engaging interviews with subjects with strong grasp of subject matter
• Actively post to social media, works with photographer editor to post best SOT to social media
