Executive News Producer - KCTV

Job Summary/Description:

KCTV5 has an immediate opening for a Executive Producer. Candidates for this must display superior news judgment and strong editorial, promotional and communication skills. Candidate should also have a proven track record overseeing breaking news and severe weather coverage on all platforms and understand how to own a big story. Must have experience working closely with on air staff, production staff and department heads. Must engage in team building and implementing the News Director's vision. Must be a flexible team player who can think on his/her feet and remain calm during high pressure situations. The Executive Producer should be able to focus on details while achieving big-picture goals. Must be able to supervise, coach and motivate staff in a positive manner.

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
• The Executive Producer is responsible for the content of KCTV morning newscasts and for the direct supervision of the producing and reporting staff. The Executive Producer is accountable for the work product of the producing and reporting staff.
• The Executive Producer shall prepare frequent and periodic reports to keep the News Director informed of activities and conditions.
• The Executive Producer is responsible for assigning the duties of the producing and reporting staff, including specific assignments.
• The Executive Producer shall help ensure that regular work schedules, activities, Company rules, regulations, procedures, policies, and general orders are carried out.
• The Executive Producer will have day-to-day producing duties.

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Proven track record of creating compelling and engaging stories across multiple platforms
• Strong writing skills and a proven track record for getting results on initiatives
• Ability to perform well under pressure, experience managing breaking news and meeting strict deadlines
• Ability to identity problems and provide solutions
• A strong commitment to journalistic standards and ethics
• Extraordinary people skills with an emphasis on coaching and motivating
• Minimum of 3 years producing in a television news environment or equivalent.
• A college degree in Journalism or a related field is preferred
