KBTX Media operates the CBS and CW affiliates in Bryan-College Station, Texas, serving an 18 county area known as the Brazos Valley. Job Summary/Description:
KBTX Media is looking for a host/reporter to help launch a new, lifestyle-focused broadcast on the Brazos Valley's dominant #1 station. You'll help develop and execute an original show designed to showcase the best of the Brazos Valley.
Bryan-College Station is consistently ranked as one of the fastest growing communities in the country, but still tops annual lists of the best places to live in the United States. The Three, an all-new lifestyle program, will celebrate those things that make the Brazos Valley such a unique leader in quality of life.
The hourlong broadcast airs live on weekdays and features a combination of original reporting, live studio guests, sponsored content and interviews, trending and buzzworthy news, and pre-produced stories showcasing the very best our community has to offer.
The ideal candidate thrives when working with a team, exhibits strong editorial judgment and is willing to do what it takes to get the best story. As a host, you'll lead and contribute to the show's editorial process, regularly create compelling enterprise content, develop story ideas and sources, and work with producers to generate innovative broadcasts that take intentional, creative risks.
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:
• Host and report in assigned daily newscasts on broadcast and digital platforms
• Oversee broadcast program, website and social media. Responsible for decisions that affect the show in general, as well as day-to-day management.
• With the news director, establish and fulfill the show's vision, goals and objectives.
• Work with Sales Department on all sponsored elements of the show, and develop a reporting procedure with News Director and Local Sales Manager to keep them apprised of daily content, in order to collaborate if opportunities arise.
• Pitch, enterprise, create, and syndicate local, creative content
• Champion impactful storytelling while generating content for KBTX newscasts, including regular enterprise reporting; working with or without a photojournalist to combine engaging video, meaningful sound, and relatable characters
• Build contacts and sources throughout the community and with stakeholders while establishing a notable presence outside of the newscasts, both online and in the community
• Mentor fellow journalists with a focus on creating strong, passionate storytellers
• Bolster station credibility and community investment through involvement in local organizations and appearances on behalf of the station
• Lead the production of enterprise special reports on a quarterly basis
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Proven experience as a host or on-air personality
• Ability to prioritize and address multiple projects with varying production timelines
• Must be energetic, positive, and great in a team environment
• Must be a highly motivated self-starter, able to work well alone and as part of a team
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to lead and work well with others.
• Strong editorial skills and ability to think creatively under constant deadline pressure.
• Must have the ability to stay up to date on current events; what's popular, trendy, etc.
• Candidates should also exhibit a good work ethic, strong people skills, the ability to be a team player and work flexibly. This position may require holiday work.
• Two years of experience in a TV newsroom, as well as a college degree in broadcast journalism or a related field are expected. Experience with ENPS, BitCentral and Grass Valley EDIUS are a big plus.
