Sports Reporter / Multi Media Journalist - KALB

About KALB:

KALB-TV is the No. 1 television station in the region of Central Louisiana. Our market comprises four primary parishes (counties), including Rapides, Avoyelles, Vernon, and Grant. We are located in Alexandria, Louisiana, a community of nearly 50,000 people right in the heart of the state. Across the Red River is the community of Pineville, which boasts an additional 15,000. Job Summary/Description:

KALB-TV in Alexandria, Louisiana is looking for a hard-working, innovative person to become our next sports reporter. This position is for someone who loves to tell the stories of athletes, teams and coaches, mostly on the high school and local college level. While this position will initially begin as a sports reporter, there will be opportunities for you to do live shots and

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
-Shooting, writing and editing local sports content, including VO's, VOSOT's, PKG's, web articles and social media.
-Developing story ideas for our ''Athlete of the Week'' segments.
-Helping to produce our ''5th Quarter'' and other daily sports segments.
-Helping to maintain current information in the sports section of KALB.com
-Contributing to our KALB Sports Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or communications preferred, although similar degrees will be considered.
- Ability to work independently as a multimedia journalist.
- Ability to edit on non-linear systems such as Edius
- Strong sports news judgment
- Knowledge of local, state and national sports, newsmakers, and issues
- Good newswriting and copy editing ability for all platforms including social media
- The ability to post to www.kalb.com and KALB's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts is required.
- Knowledge of libel laws and ethical foundations of journalism
- Maintain professional personal appearance as defined by KALB-TV management
- Ability to work cooperatively with others to create a sense of teamwork in the presentation of news and other programming
- Proficiency in current and emerging newsgathering and production technologies
- Ability to think quickly and respond appropriately in high pressure situations
- Valid drivers license with good driving record is a MUST
- Ability to lift, carry and maneuver up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Flexibility to work any assigned shift.
