Job Summary/Description:
KAIT in Jonesboro, Arkansas, has an immediate opening for an aggressive, dynamic, creative Assistant News Director to help manage the day-to-day operations of the newsroom. The ideal candidate will possess excellent news judgment, strong producing and showcasing skills, and strong management and leadership skills. The Assistant News Director will work closely with the News Director on special projects planning, training, and leading an award-winning news team.
Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:
- Work closely with multi-media journalists, producers, digital producers, and anchors to create compelling news content for broadcast, digital, and social platforms.
- Assist in running editorial meetings.
- Help develop daily coverage plans and special content plans.
- Help lead the news team during breaking news events.
- Create weekly newsroom schedule.
- Assist in training and providing valuable feedback for the news team.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by the News Director.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field required.
- Minimum of 2 years of local news experience in a commercial newsroom.
- Proven track record of making appropriate decisions during breaking news events.
- Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A keen understanding of multi-platform storytelling.
- Must be able to work flexible hours and adapt to schedule changes.
