Job Description
Established in 1996, IndieWire reports on, defines, and elevates the best of film & TV and is a go-to source for creators and consumers to discover new voices. Indiewire is looking for Los Angeles based Weekend Editor, Thursday-Monday, to join our growing News team. This role demands sharp writing, editing, and fact-checking skills, high-volume production of breaking news under tight deadlines, and strong news judgment. They must be able to self-publish clean copy, edit others, and write terrific headlines. A self-directed ability to track the entertainment news cycle and identify news stories to cover on their own is essential.

This role captures relevant breaking news in the form of aggregation, pre-writing trailer posts, writing up a press release, and creating galleries. The person who will thrive in this role brings a strong news sense, can pitch unique ways to advance a story, and understands that being on the news beat is all about speed, precision, and the pivot.

The hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm PT. On weekends, the editor is responsible for a minimum of 6 stories per day and is responsible for managing the site, which includes curating the homepage and posting articles to our social channels. Saturday and Sunday stories will be filed to a rotating weekend supervisor for edit. A strong news sense is essential: The role demands the ability to identify worthy stories, know when and how to seek out additional confirmations, and use the news cycle to create fresh spins.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Write a minimum of 3 stories per day on weekdays and 6 stories on weekend days. Some days will be greater based on the news cycle.
• Serve as backup for social media posting and homepage curation during week, solo on Sat/Sun.
• Make fast and decisive judgment calls on breaking news stories
• Unearth news from traditional and new-media sources
• Manage the weekend supervisor schedule, coordinating dates with IndieWire staff in advance.
• Be responsible for finding weekend news writer coverage from staff if you need to be absent.

Qualifications:
• Two to five years' experience writing and editing short-form pieces on a tight deadline
• Understanding of and obsession with film and television
• Understanding of the entertainment media landscape
• Experience using a CMS and social media platforms
• SEO knowledge a plus

The salary for this role is $66,750. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
