Job Description

Test Editor (Autos), Enthusiast Group

Your impact:

Hearst Magazines' Enthusiast Group is looking for an automotive-obsessed product journalist to join our Test Team and elevate Popular Mechanic's auto-related reviews, awards packages, maintenance pieces, and news stories. This role is responsible for leading our coverage of cars, trucks, RVs, and motorcycles. You will be expected to research, evaluate, test, and recommend vehicles and accessories across categories, creating content that informs our PopMech Pro audience as well as auto enthusiasts and first-time car buyers.

The position requires you to use data insights, product research, industry contacts, and enthusiasm for automobiles and related categories to produce high-quality, insightful reviews. Our product journalism aims to inspire trust in our readers; you will balance creating rigorously tested reviews with authoritative recommendations, helpful service pieces, print packages, and roundups on tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have proven expertise and a desire to share her/his passion with PopMech's 15 million monthly readers. You will be comfortable with digital-publishing tools, search optimization, and using data insights to create successful content. Our audience is highly capable and immensely curious. You should be confident in producing highly accurate and trustworthy reviews that inform, inspire, empower, and equip them to do more and live better.

This person will be part of the Enthusiast Group Test Team in Easton, Pennsylvania, and will have the opportunity to write for our other brands: Runner's World, Bicycling, and Best Products. Please note: For consideration, resumes must be submitted in PDF format with a cover letter, salary requirements, and a link to a portfolio of clips.

What you'll do:
• Write, edit, and update multiple vehicle (and vehicle accessory) reviews and recommendations each month that help readers make smarter purchasing decisions.
• Devise and perform qualitative and quantitative tests; you will test multiple categories of accessories each month.
• Contribute automotive reviews and news to print pages and packages; you will lead our annual Automotive Excellence franchise.
• Ensure all automotive content is technically accurate, authentic, and relevant to our audience.
• Represent PopMech to the endemic industry and community; serve as our automotive expert in videos and social media.
• Collaborate with membership, sales, marketing, licensing, and partnerships teams to develop authentic, credible, on-brand content that helps those teams meet their goals.

Who you are:
• You have proven expertise or enthusiasm for autos; experience reviewing and evaluating trucks, motorcycles, and RVs a plus.
• You have at least five years of experience writing automotive-related editorial content for a digital or print publication.
• You are comfortable in a digital environment.
• You are able to use data and audience insights to create successful content across platforms.
• You possess excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
• You are able to collaborate and foster positive relationships with colleagues.
• You have experience working within a CMS.
• You possess a current driver's license.
