Hearst Television seeks a dynamic, digital Jack or Jill of all trades: a writer-producer-editor who can build upon the local reporting from HTV's 26 local news stations by identifying stories that can be turned into long-form pieces for a national audience. The senior content producer will be responsible for researching, pitching, writing and producing 20- to 25-minute episodic and stand-alone videos on a variety of subjects, from true crime to heartwarming stories. The ideal candidate has a passion for video storytelling, can tell stories with or without track, and knows how to make local news content accessible and interesting to a wide national audience.
This position will be based in our New York corporate office.
Responsibilities:
• Shepherd long-form stories for digital and television from ideation to completion, which can include: researching; pitching; coordinating with other team members and outside stakeholders; interviewing subjects; preparing shot sheets; field producing; writing scripts; and editing video or collaborating with an assigned editor.
• Work with the Amplify Team to optimize content for multiple platforms, with an emphasis on our streaming app, YouTube and our 26+ news station sites
• Maintain and manage prescribed deadlines, while thriving in an ever-changing and fast-paced environment
• Assist other team members in the field, occasionally field producing and/or shooting broll
• Occasionally assist other team members in pre- and post-production
• Track stories and produce follow-ups when necessary
• Optimize, edit and publish videos for digital platforms
Requirements:
• 5 years of relevant experience telling long-form scripted and/or unscripted stories
• Strong understanding of digital video trends, documentary-style storytelling, platforms and formats, YouTube experience a plus
• A passion for storytelling and news, with a talent for giving stories a long shelf life
• Proven ability to craft compelling narratives that keep the viewer engaged
• Excellent news judgment and an instinct for identifying stories that will resonate
• A desire to experiment, think outside the box and challenge conventional ideas
• Strong writing, reporting, research and production skills (field production experience a plus)
• Experience using Adobe Premiere or similar video-editing software
• Videography experience a plus
