Your New Role…
The senior accountant will be a part of the Controllership team responsible for closing the books for Direct to Consumer (DTC)….HBO/HBO Max and will be based out of the Mexico City office.
This individual will be responsible for performing the personnel accounting duties related to DTC (HBO/HBO Max businesses) in proper compliance with US GAAP. The senior accountant should be comfortable performing various analyses with levels of difficulty ranging from low/intermediate to complex. This individual must be able to perform analytical steps to validate amounts provided by various stakeholders to assess the reasonability of the impact being proposed. The senior accountant must possess a keen attention to detail. Being self-driven will serve well in this role also. This position must have excellent communication skills and maintain a high level of professionalism to support senior level finance and human resource business partners throughout the HBO/DTC business group.
Some of the core responsibilities for this role include: bonus comp accrual, severance expense adjustments and other general payroll activities for the DTC business.
In this role, you will report to the Accounting Manager, also based in Mexico City. The senior accountant will be a supporting partner for all personnel related activities, internal and external, as it relates to the DTC operations.
Your Role Accountabilities…
• Engaged in the day-to-day accounting activities for DTC.
• Perform various journal entries to facilitate closing the financial books monthly, quarterly, and annually.
• Prepare complex analysis, and generate supporting documentation for all journal entries recorded and periodic schedules/roll forwards.
• Timely preparation of account reconciliations, including relevant analysis, and flux explanations.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while understanding when to communicate updates, follow up, and seek guidance from management.
• Review and communicate detailed variance analysis to upper management.
• Analyze existing processes and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
• Participate in special projects and ad hoc analyses as needed in your area of responsibility.
• Work closely with the accounting policy team to evaluate complex accounting issues and execute agreed-upon accounting treatment on these transactions.
• Work closely with external audits to support interim and year-end audits.
• Responsible for ensuring proper internal controls are being performed and all transactions are recorded timely and accurately in accordance with GAAP and established SOX requirements and procedures.
• Assist where needed in the testing of any activity to serve the SAP S/4 HANA initiative.
• Build, foster, and maintain good working relationships with members of the Accounting Controllership, Finance business partners and stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience...
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, Business Management or equivalent.
• Experience in similar positions (2+ years).
• Fluent in English.
• Sox controls and exposure to financial audits.
• Ability to adapt to dynamic and uncertain environments (flexibility and prioritization).
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Effective communication skills as this individual will be coordinating with stakeholders across the various entities.
• Proficient in Excel and other MS tools.
• Abilities to develop interpersonal relationships.
Preferred:
• Master's degree and/or CPA.
• Personnel Accounting experience.
• Keen attention to detail.
• Self-starter
• Experience in Shared Business Services centers.
• Motivated to deliver a quality product, has initiative and willingness to take on additional responsibilities, emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, data analysis, process innovation, and team player who embraces change.
• Experience in SAP/Peoplesoft or other ERP systems.
• Experience in Hyperion, SmartView, EPM and other database tools.
• Experience in Blackline/Cadency Certification.
