HBO Max™ is WarnerMedia's direct-to-consumer streaming platform, offering best in class quality entertainment. HBO Max features the greatest array of storytelling for all audiences from the iconic brands of HBO, Warner Bros., DC, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Turner Classic Movies and more. The platform launched in the United States in May 2020 and introduced a lower priced, advertising-supported tier in June 2021. HBO Max began its global rollout launching in markets across Latin America and the Caribbean this summer, followed by its first European launches in the Nordics and Spain. It has been announced that HBO Max will continue its European expansion for a global reach of 67 countries in 2022.

About the opportunity

The Director Content Compliance EMEA will form part of the EMEA Content Experience team and will be responsible for ensuring that HBO Max adheres to the respective content rules, policies, best practices and reporting requirements across the different territories and countries within EMEA. This person will work closely with the EMEA Legal Counsel, including the content acquisitions and local original production compliance teams to ensure that we can proactively respond to, and comply with the required compliance while meeting the HBO Max business objectives. They will also be responsible for informing and guiding the content planning, editorial and product teams regarding relevant local content compliance regulation and execution.

The Daily
• Implement relevant compliance related workflows and procedures across the relevant functions to ensure HBO Max adheres to the respective content rules, policies, best practices, ethical standards, and accessibility regulations
• Create and implement compliance reports and metrics that that will also support internal strategic decision-making, risk mitigation, and compliance reporting
• Work closely with the General Counsel, Acquisitions and Local Original Production teams on relevant reporting and submission requirements for HBO Max in EMEA (such as collecting agencies, local content quotas, production quotas, and accessibility requirement reporting to regulators)
• Review and support the WM acquisitions team in reporting of content inventory and compliance related to local content quotas within the various territories
• Guide editorial decisions regarding local compliance and content disclaimers
• Ensure parental guidance within various territories are compliant from a content and product perspectives
• Lead internal and external communication regarding HBO Max EMEA editorial compliance
• Research, insights and up to date knowledge of EU and EMEA direct-to-consumer content compliance regulation. Specific experience of the Swedish media regulatory framework is preferred.

The Essentials
• Sound understanding of the complex EU and EMEA rules and policies related to direct-to-consumer businesses across EMEA territories. Specific experience of the Swedish media regulatory framework is preferred.
• Understanding of EMEA regulatory guidelines, rules and policies related to all jurisdictions relevant for HBO Max direct-to-consumer services
• A sound understanding of the media environment and proven excellent overall judgement
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Risk management and problem-solving skills
