SEGMENT PRODUCER - DC BUREAU (GRAY MEDIA GROUP)

About DC BUREAU:

The DC Bureau covers live breaking news, politics, and in-depth investigations for Gray TV's 113 television markets. Its regional team works closely with stations, covering issues directly impacting viewers in their markets. The national team reports on domestic and foreign issues affecting the entire country. It often travels with the President as he meets with world leaders overseas. InvestigateTV produces investigations for Gray TV and recently sparked new legislation on Capitol Hill. Local News Live is a 24/7 live streaming news network featuring stories from Gray TV stations.

Job Summary/Description:

The Gray TV Washington News Bureau is looking for a segment producer to help develop national news franchises. The position requires a creative writer and strong storyteller. Someone who can pitch and develop compelling stories that grab and hold on to viewers' attention.

Duties/Responsible for (but not limited to) the following:
- Coordinating production logistics (shoot locations, schedules, travel info, etc.)
- Field producing
- Writing package scripts
- Building and ordering graphics
- Supervising post-production
- Newsgathering
- Guest booking and conducting pre-interviews
- Developing pitches for ''Listening to America,'' Gray's 2024 election coverage and other projects
- Making key editorial decisions
- Research
- Work closely with Gray DC's management staff and talent to achieve goals

Qualifications/Requirements:
- Position requires a flexible schedule and willingness to travel
- Solid news judgment and editorial skills
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Video editing skills; proficiency in Premiere Pro
- Willingness to collaborate and support Gray DC's healthy newsroom culture
- Keen eye for detail
- Experience shooting preferred
- 3 – 5 years of production experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field of study is preferred, or equivalent experience
