Job Summary/Description:

KHNL is seeking an evening Newscast Producer to join our team. The newscast producer's primary objective is to prepare his or her newscast with a creative edge that will appeal to a broad range of viewers while utilizing reporters and their own writing skill. Producers have a responsibility to ensure that stories are updated, accurate and presented in a way in which viewers will want to keep watching time and time again. Producers work together with anchors, reporters, digital content producers and management staff to ensure that stories make deadline accurately.

Must be able to line produce, write compelling news stories and work well under pressure & tight deadlines. The primary job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Essential responsibilities include, but not limited to:

1. Plan, structure, write and edit newscasts, or other news programming or material, including but not limited to multi media properties.
2. Work with reporters to conceptualize, coordinate and approve stories that conform to station policies, practices and procedures.
3. Work with newsroom manager to assign stories and monitor story coverage.
4. Develop, plan and research live segments and interviews with the Executive Producer.
5. Produce and edit editorial content directly to website.
6. Perform other duties as needed and directed by News Management.

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Strong news judgment, ethics and knowledge of Hawaii are a must
• Familiarity with use of social media as news gathering tools
• Excellent writing, grammar and copy-editing skills
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism or equivalent preferred
• Previous experience in a newsroom preferred
• Must work well in stressful situations
