JOB DESCRIPTION
WJZY-TV, FOX 46 in Charlotte, NC is seeking a quick-thinking Associate Producer. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the daily organization, writing and editing of newscasts as assigned by Producers and/or Executive Producers. Write copy that is fair, accurate and grammatically correct. View video tape and select appropriate pictures and interviews for broadcast as approved by news management. Ability to recognize story inadequacies or missing information. Work independently to find the necessary information to complete the story and give feedback to Producers if more resources are required to support the story using all available means (i.e. telephone, databases, computer archive searches, etc.) Work with field crews to manage stories, provide graphics, video and logistical support. Coordinate daily video feeds for newscasts. Work closely with assignment desk to coordinate live shots and Reporter & Photojournalist assignments. Maintain open communication with News director and all station personnel to efficiently, respectfully and professionally complete news assignments. This includes monitoring the wire service to ascertain relevant stories for inclusion in newscasts. Must print, rip and organize scripts for talent, producers and director. Attend and participate in editorial meetings. Provide suggestions for news related stories and participate in post-production critiques. Constantly move throughout the station to coordinate work requirements and news related activities. Occasionally bends, stoops and crouches. Constantly operates PC, using a keyboard, to complete required news items and related materials. Sits for extended periods of time in order to accomplish essential duties. Complies with all Station and Department policies, procedures and guidelines. Perform other duties and special projects as needed and assigned by news management. Bachelors' degree in applicable discipline such as broadcast journalism, communications, or equivalent job experience is preferred. One year of experience producing or newsgathering experience for broadcast at a commercial television station preferred.

Schedule:
It is an essential part of the AP's job to be willing to adjust hours to meet the fluctuating demands of a news team in a competitive market. If special events fall on an AP's day off they may be required to participate if requested. Overtime may also be required based on the needs of the department. As part of the news team, holidays which fall Monday through Friday will be worked, unless time-off is approved by the Assistant News Director or News Director. No vacations will be approved during a television-rating period.
