FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the US These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network's national content.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Do you have a passion for finding unique, exclusive stories? Do you love social media sleuthing and digging to get to the heart of the story? Are you passionate about local issues, and telling stories no one else in the market is telling? If so, we have an exciting assignment desk position in one of the top news markets in the country.

The ideal candidate will work hand in hand with the assignment desk and special projects department. Duties will include: researching story ideas and tips, scanning social media for stories, reaching out to sources for interviews and information, setting up stories for reporters on various shifts, and tracking and organizing story progress.

This position requires very strong news judgment, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to track multiple projects at the same time. You must be able to work independently with a strong sense of self-direction.
Other assignment desk duties include:
• Monitor scanners for breaking news
• Disseminate information to producers and field crews
• Confirm information
• Cultivate relationships with public information officers and sources in the market
• Make coverage decisions
• Keep news staff apprised of breaking news and change in assignments
• Coordinate coverage with affiliates/network
• Coordinate/plan for future stories and special events
• Write, edit, and post stories on the station's website and social media platforms
• Other duties as assigned.

• Work varied hours, holidays, weekends and during severe weather situations as needed and/or scheduled.

Regularly stand; walk, sit, reach with hands and arms; and; talk or hear.
Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

REQUIREMENT: A minimum of two years' experience in TV news, including assignment desk experience preferred. Must be well organized and able to manage multiple projects. Must demonstrate outstanding news judgment and good news writing skills. Must be able to deal effectively with people. Must be able to work well in a fast paced environment. Overtime, holidays and varied hours required.
