JOB DESCRIPTION
Fox News is looking for an organized, motivated, curious individual with strong logistical and editorial skills to join our assignment desk team in the Washington, DC Bureau. The Freelance Assignment Editor works with a team of people to coordinate daily news coverage, which includes adjusting reporters to cover breaking news and responding to cover a consistent flow of events at the Capitol, White House, Pentagon, State Department, and other venues in DC. The Freelance Assignment Editor also prioritizes incoming editorial information and organizes crews to ensure we're on top of breaking news. A natural curiosity of news is a must.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Monitor news, reach out to appropriate beat reporters/producers, and ensure that breaking and updated information is entered into the urgent queue
• Assign and organize crews to meet the changing demands of day-to-day news coverage
• Reach out to the bureau management team to flag breaking news in the DC region, providing a plan of action and coverage for live broadcast
• Assist in tracking and logging of DC news events with an emphasis on guiding employees to flag and highlight news developments
• Monitor wires, social media, and other broadcast networks for news developments
• Reach out to agencies, government departments, and FOX personnel to gather and confirm information
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field of study preferred, or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of experience in a local or national newsroom
• Knowledge of the DC area is a plus
• Strong logistical and editorial skills with knowledge of national and international politics
• Familiarity with the various DC government agencies
• Knowledge of network pool operations at the desk level with an emphasis on understanding the unilateral benefit
• Ability to be a self-starter who can work independently, as well as a team player
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and prioritize on a daily basis, especially in breaking news situations
• Familiarity with iNews and Outlook is a plus
• Willingness to work weekends, early mornings, and late shifts
Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $38.00-48.00 per hour.
