JOB DESCRIPTION

TMZ is seeking a Director of Photography to join its broadcast department. The Director of Photography will be responsible for establishing the visual style of various productions and guiding the creative vision. The ideal candidate will work with our broadcast team including camera operators to direct the overall look and feel of our productions. This position requires excellent troubleshooting skills and a background in television field production and broadcast technology.

Responsibilities:
• Partner with Executive Producers to ensure the visual style and creative vision are met for each TMZ production, ensuring continuity across the brand
• Make certain production is of the highest quality and assist with planning and executing shoots
• Understand and contribute to the creative vision for multiple productions
• Develop the visual style, lighting, composition, and planning of camera angles
• Coordinate with Post Production team on needs for a smooth edit process
• Participate in location scouts and provide feedback to guarantee we maximize creative potential
• Secure the necessary equipment for shoots by coordinating with the Production team
• Assist with studio camera maintenance and upgrades

Requirements:
• 5+ years' experience as a DP with substantial field experience.
• Adept technical camera operating skills
• Knowledge of cameras, lenses, and experience with digital imaging
• Ability to properly light in a variety of environments in studio and out in field
• Strong technical understanding of broadcast signal types, audio and video formats, sync, time-code and signal flow. Knowledge of Sony FX9 cameras is preferred.
• Excellent organizational, project planning, and time management skills with careful attention to detail needed
• Ability to test equipment for both field and studio shoots
• Experience working with specialized broadcast gear unique to a television studio

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is: $165,000.00-198,000.00 annually for California. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
