Job Description

FOX 5 San Diego/KSWB-TV is looking for a talented individual to curate and produce content from breaking news to enterprise news reports for FOX5sandiego.com with the goal of increasing user engagement and traffic, particularly in-DMA unique visitors.

The ideal candidate is both detail-oriented and a creative strategic thinker who is able to multi-task without daily supervision.

DUTIES:
- Curate and aggregate a steady stream of interesting content that is packaged and promoted in a way that generates interest and buzz
- Manage news stories, photos, video and interactive content on FOX5sandiego.com
- Manage video livestreams on FOX5sandiego.com and Facebook
- Monitor all forms of media (print, TV, digital, blogs and social) and be the first to report breaking news stories and always on the hunt for exclusives and/or trending content that will drive traffic
- Write catchy, clickable headlines that are journalistically solid and increase pageviews, and package content that grows video views, pageviews per visitor and time on site
-Write stories for FOX5sandiego.com based on broadcast content from FOX 5 newscasts
-Write stories for FOX5sandiego.com based on news releases, interviews and social media posts
-Work with television reporters and writers to improve their stories from FOX5sandiego.com
- Evaluate website traffic trends in effort to make decisions on both daily content and longer-term content development that will grow traffic
- Promote and distribute news content on social media
- Work with on-air staff to improve their social media posts and engagement
- Build positive working relationships with newsroom staff and management, work collaboratively and create opportunities to market web content on broadcast newscasts
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, as staffing and news cycle dictate

REQUIREMENTS:
- BA/BS degree
- 2+ years' experience in digital media and journalism
- Basic understanding of journalism ethics and legal principles
- Clever headline writer that gets readers to click
- Excellent writing and copy editing skills
- Mastery of spelling, punctuation, grammar and AP style
- Capable of researching, interviewing and writing original news articles
- Working knowledge of social media best practices
- Knowledge of SEO best practices
- Organized, technical problem solver and quick decision maker
- Excellent interpersonal skills; enjoys working in teams
- Ease with/ability to learn new technology independently and quickly
- Comfortable adapting to changes in evolving industry and thrives under pressure
- Work schedule flexibility (nights, weekends)
- Proficiency in MS Office and Photoshop; Video editing (Premiere Pro preferred). Knowledge of HTML and CSS preferred
