DEI Communications Manager

Position Summary:

The ESPN Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) team leads the development of DEI business strategy, collaborating with leaders and teams across ESPN and The Walt Disney Company.

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Communications Manager will work closely with the above mentioned DEI team, in alignment with The Walt Disney Company's overarching DEI strategy. This position will be integral to managing ESPN's reputation through external and internal communications strategies in support of the DEI team's strategic goals. This role will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of ESPN's DEI Comms plans that outline how and via what channels DEI will communicate to the media, employees, potential new hires and the industry at large. This person will manage day-to-day DEI comms efforts and assist in drafting corporate messaging and responses through a strategic DEI lens.

Responsibilities:
• Develop DEI Comms plans and drive key results that shape and promote ESPN's DEI efforts to the media, employees and the industry at large
• Support the development and execution of detailed publicity campaigns for our DEI efforts
• Develop a key messaging framework and work with ESPN's internal communications team to make sure all colleagues and employees are informed
• Support issue management efforts and act as a liaison with key stakeholders including ESPN's HR DEI team
• Build strong internal relationships to work collaboratively across different teams and departments
• Develop press materials, including press kits, press releases, fact sheets, bios, plan press events, etc.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key media members following DEI initiatives and diverse audiences including blogs, social platforms and influencers
• Identify and create story angles, pitch them to various media outlets and generate publicity results
• Embrace new tools and approaches to serve as a 360 communicator, serving both internal and external audiences. Generate story ideas and multimedia assets to creatively engage a variety of audiences online. This includes creating regular new material for ESPN's internal employee website, content for ESPN PR social platforms and ESPN Front Row, the company's outward-facing corporate blog.
• Provide crisis PR and issue management support
• Research and monitor emerging trends and/or DEI issues that may potentially impact ESPN
• Share editorial recaps for leadership, continuously seeking to improve results
• Understand the demands of working for a 24/7 media company and be willing and available to work evenings and weekends

Qualifications:
• Ideal candidate will have a minimum of five to seven years of experience relevant to supporting the duties listed above in the areas of DEI, corporate or external communications, crisis communications or internal communications.
• Crisis communications experience managing messaging and brand reputation.
• Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to grasp and translate complex and disparate ideas into a cohesive strategy with clear key messaging.
• Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.
• Fluent in digital communication mediums and multi-channel communications strategies.
• Desire and ability to work collaboratively, respectfully, enthusiastically in an environment where creativity, innovative thinking, and an excellent work ethic are highly valued.
• Quick learner with ability to take direction, work under pressure and operate as part of a team, high sense of responsibility and confidentiality.
• Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining effective business relationships is necessary; ability to work effectively with people at all levels; kindness strongly preferred.

Required Education
• Four-year college degree or equivalent experience preferably in journalism or communications.
