Job Description
UX DESIGN
What We Do
We design customer and user-focused experiences that are fresh and innovative, while problem solving by anticipating user behavior and hurdles. We approach the most complex of problems and address them with simple, intuitive, and useful solutions.
What You'll Do
As an experienced Senior Technical UI Designer, you will work closely with UX Designers, UI Artists, and UI Engineers to implement UI systems and features. Much of our work starts undefined, and you will help to shape the direction. You will raise the bar for the discipline through the standards you set, the workflows you improve, and the people you mentor. Above all, you advocate for the player experience.
In this role, you will
• Break a feature or wireframe down into clear, scoped tasks, surfacing unknowns and dependencies early
• Prototype and prove out new UI techniques, pushing the limits of UMG and shaping the patterns the team adopts
• Architect robust, reusable component systems that stay flexible as designs change
• Implement data-driven UI through ViewModels and view bindings, working closely with UI Engineering
• Build for every player, accounting for screen sizes and safe areas, localization, and accessibility
• Design within performance and memory budgets, profiling the cost of UMG, Slate, C++, and texture memory
• Collaborate closely with UX, UI Art, and Engineering, improving workflows, pipelines, and documentation, and giving feedback as readily as you accept it
What we're looking for
• You are a project expert in technical UI implementation, having previously built UI in game engines that has shipped to a large audience across PC, console, and mobile on a regular basis. Comparable experience with transferable skills is welcome
• You have hands-on Unreal and UMG experience, or strong experience in another game engine, custom or commercial, and a real appetite to go deep in Unreal
• You are at your best in ambiguity, quickly picking up new and sparsely documented toolsets and technologies like AI, finding a path where there is no precedent, and asking the questions no one else has thought to ask
• You have proven experience with data-driven UI and the separation of data from presentation, through MVVM and ViewModels or an equivalent, and have strong component-architecture instincts, designing for flexibility by nature
• You have a strong visual eye and working knowledge of UX and UI, layout, composition, hierarchy, and interaction patterns, reflexively anticipating states, edge cases, overflow, localization, dynamic content, and responsive scaling
• You have a strong feel for controller-first navigation and for building UI that works across input methods and platforms
• You design with performance and runtime cost in mind, comfortable profiling and working to a budget
• You have real craft in UI materials and motion, or the adjacent skill and appetite to grow it quickly.
• You translate fluidly across UX, UI Art, Engineering, production, and leadership, meeting non-technical teammates where they are, and documenting work so a distributed team can build on it
• You have solid programming fundamentals, object-oriented design, data structures, and game systems, and you are comfortable with the math UI and motion work depend on, such as transforms, geometry, and interpolation
