Job Description
Senior Technical Artist (World Creation)
ART
What We Do
Unreal-powered projects have been on the bleeding edge of real-time entertainment for over 20 years. Our team of industry experts are always innovating to improve our world building tools and workflows that power high quality environments today and for years to come.
What You'll Do
You'll join the industry-leading Unreal Engine team as a Senior Technical Artist and help shape the future of world creation! As a Senior Technical Artist, you'll be hands-on, contributing to the design of cutting-edge novel world-building tools through an iterative development process - from next-gen terrain tools and procedural content generation to world partition streaming and modeling tools. Be part of redefining how real-time environments that scale across all platforms are created and push the boundaries of what's possible!
In this role, you will
• Participate in the design and iterative development of world building tools
• Partner with Engineering and UX teams to design workflows, and build valuable well thought out solutions
• Ensure our tools are best in class and meet our user expectations by creating prototypes, demos, examples and provide constant feedback
• Drive product initiatives with minimal direction/supervision
• Engage with our internal Epic Games production teams and external users to understand their needs and requirements
• Apply principles, standards and best practices within the subject matter area to influence product deliverables and manage the product roadmap
• Work with our marketing and sales teams to help them explain what problems we are solving and the value for our users
What we're looking for
• 5+ years of technical experience in the World Building field (e.g. Senior Technical Artist or equivalent) working with exceptional engineering talent
• Subject matter expertise in large open world production, landscape creation workflows, 3D modeling, geometry scripting, procedural content generation for games and the ability to teach those workflows to others
• Expertise with Houdini, World Machine, Gaea, Maya, 3Ds Max, Blender and with Unreal, Unity or any proprietary game engine is a plus
• Someone that enjoys working on engine, tools and features development up to final productization
• Someone that can be the voice of our users, and think in both near-term (tactics) and long-term (strategy)
• Drive alignment with clever, thoughtful, and kind people as a team
• Excellent communication, and relationship-building skills
• Comfortable with change, managing complex tasks and adaptable to project scope
This role is open to multiple locations across North America & Europe (including NYC, Washington and California).
