DESIGN
What We Do
Put your design skills to work at a cutting-edge company that challenges the norm. From character and level design to competitive gameplay and system design, help shape the future of interactive entertainment at Epic.
What You'll Do
Epic Games' Fortnite Battle Royale team is looking for a versatile Senior Systems Designer for our Competitive (Ranked + Tournament) modes. In this role, you will cultivate the player experience across these modes, and create features that excite, delight, and reward players. Our ideal candidate has experience in systems and progression design and brings a passion for creating systems of competitive play that appeal to all ranges of skill levels.
In this role, you will
• Be the go-to person for teammates to rely upon as a subject matter expert and owner for progression, matchmaking, and related features. Drive the design of the Competitive space, with an emphasis on systems that value players' investment in skilled Battle Royale play and collaborate across disciplines and teams to champion creating rewarding vectors of progression across competitive play modes
• Monitor and maintain ranked play in Build and Zero Build modes across all regions and steward the pace of progression in ranked play to ensure the best player experience
• Invent additional vectors for showcasing accomplishments among players of different skill levels, regions, and friend groups
• Create clear and concise designs, and champion them to stakeholders across the organization effectively
• Lead by example to set the quality bar for design. Work closely with production to identify, prioritize, assign, and evaluate design work
• Actively participate in big-picture decisions and ensure the design team focuses on the correct elements to achieve superior results
• Attend playtests and play live to provide feedback, and identify practical solutions to problems
What we're looking for
• 5+ years of experience designing game systems with an emphasis on progression
• 2+ years of experience shipping updates and new features to players on a regular cadence or similar experiences that have transferable years of experience
• A broad, cross-disciplinary skill set - someone who can consider the many facets and components of a system and wear the hats necessary to adjust them
• A genuine passion for the nuts and bolts of a well-oiled system - spreadsheets, making calculations, and running data simulations
• Demonstrated talent for empathizing with players and a deep understanding of player motivations, forms of play, and the effects of goal setting on play
• Strong interest in ranked and competitive play in BR and other multiplayer games, with a deep understanding of what makes them effective
• Solution-oriented problem solver who can react quickly to changing project needs and drive to decisions
This role is open to multiple locations in North America (including CA & WA).
