Job Description
ONLINE INFRASTRUCTURE

What We Do

We enable Epic's online services teams to build, deploy, and manage services used by more than half a billion players around the world. Our mission is to provide world-class tools and platforms to improve the developers' experience and make it easier, faster, and safer to build, operate, and scale their applications. We operate at a massive scale as one of the largest cloud computing users in the world.

What You'll Do

The Service Management Platform (SMP) team is part of the Developer Platform organization. We develop platforms and tools that enable Epic developers to focus on innovation and make it easy for them to do the right thing (e.g., compliance, cost efficiency, operational excellence). We enable hundreds of teams at Epic to build, deploy, and manage services that are used by more than half a billion players around the world.

SMP is focused on two important objectives with enormous impact across the company:
- Protect the privacy of Epic's game players
- Provide a single pane of glass for Epic internal services management

We are looking for a senior Full Stack Programmer to play a key role in:
- Build a developer portal based on Backstage (backstage.io) to provide the key information to programmers and to serve as an entry point to all platform services
- Make sure that the service catalog data is complete and satisfies compliance and legal safeguards to improve Epic data compliance and privacy standards

In this role, you will
• Develop features, plugins, and integrations that ensure a convenient and consistent UI/UX interface for customers and partners
• Improve and maintain an existing codebase
• Use a wide range of technologies - such as React, Node, and Typescript
• Utilize AWS infrastructure to operate Backstage
• Collaborate with owners of Epic services to plan service integrations into the platform
• Mentor our programmers and help them learn and adopt industry best practices

What we're looking for
• Experience with React, TypeScript, and good knowledge of frontend frameworks
• Ideally, some experience building and maintaining developer platforms/portals; Backstage is a plus
• Understanding of authorization and authentication mechanisms: OAuth, OpenID, JWTs
• Knowledge of Javascript-oriented build tooling (webpack, ESLint, etc.), CI tools (such as GitHub Actions)
• Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases
• Some experience with cloud (we use AWS)
• Testing-oriented mindset: unit, integration, and end-to-end
• Focus on service maintainability, automation, and security
• Can-do attitude and willingness to learn new things every day
• Ability to support others, helping them make the right technological choices for their environment

Note to Recruitment Agencies: Epic does not accept any unsolicited resumes or approaches from any unauthorized third party (including recruitment or placement agencies) (i.e., a third party with whom we do not have a negotiated and validly executed agreement). We will not pay any fees to any unauthorized third party. Further details on these matters can be found here.
