Job Description
ANALYTICS
What We Do
Our Data & Analytics teams build powerful stories and visuals that inform the games we make, the technology we develop, and business decisions that drive Epic.
What You'll Do
Epic Games is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to support the meta-progression systems area. You'll apply mixed methods to own the end-to-end life cycle of creating data assets, reports, insights, to impact the direction of efforts across Epic's portfolio of products and ecosystems, with a particular focus on our meta-progression systems, like XP and Quests. The successful candidate will have the ability to apply a range of data technologies, statistical methods, and visualization methods to influence development and product teams, and to partner with stakeholders across all parts of the business.
In this role, you will
• Partner with progression and quest product managers and designers to identify opportunities for our meta-progression systems and use data to develop metrics and insights
• Scope the telemetry these systems depend on and build the ETL, data models, and dashboards stakeholders rely on to tune XP, quests, and the Battle Pass each season
• Run exploratory analysis, whether that's how to cohort players, what's behind an engagement shift, or funnel analysis
• Design and run experiments: A/B tests where we can randomize, and other causal inference methods (difference-in-differences, regression discontinuity) where we can't
• Partner on new progression features from the start, from scoping what to measure through standing up reporting for launch
What we're looking for
• At least 5 years in analytics or data science, with a proven interest in and knowledge of live-service games and how players engage with them
• Strong product sense, and a track record of shaping what a team builds by putting the right data in front of the right people
• Fluent, efficient SQL over very large datasets and solid footing in the Python analytics stack
• Experience scoping telemetry with programming teams and building the ETL and data models on top of it
• Grounding in experimental design and A/B testing, with the judgment to know when a clean experiment isn't possible; quasi-experimental methods (RDD, difference-in-differences) are a plus
• Experience with production tooling: version control (GitHub), orchestration (Airflow / Astronomer), and AI coding tools such as Claude Code.
This role is open to multiple locations in North America (including CA & WA).
