What You'll Do
Epic Games is searching for an experienced Character Artist to work on our collaboration with Disney. In this position, you will work directly with world class concept and character art teams to help create exciting, compelling characters that embody their iconic roots. You will have the opportunity to innovate and contribute to the visual style of characters as part of building a rich and engaging interactive world.
In this role, you will
• Create characters and enemies based on direction from concept art and reference materials
• Model high and low poly characters with clean and efficient topology
• Optimize and bake characters to look their best within predefined budgets
• Based on visual direction from the Art Director, collaborate on the visual style and ensure our designs are of the Epic quality bar
• Create and iterate on unique and stunning designs within a determined production schedule
• Model characters in a variety of styles. You will primarily be working with stylized characters, but should be comfortable doing photo-realistic work when needed
• Partner with other departments, such as the Character Design or Concept Art team, to ensure the models work within the project workflow
What we're looking for
• Experience working on AAA games for console, PC, and/or mobile
• Experienced in game art asset creation in a variety of software packages including Maya or Max, Zbrush, Photoshop, Substance, etc
• A mind for technical function and aesthetic pursuit with an ability to balance creativity with function
• Ability to work within gameplay design restraints (environment scale, character abilities, prototype function, etc.) and translate those restrictions into visuals that enhance the experience
• Strong traditional drawing skills and knowledge of the human anatomy is a plus
• Strong understanding of color theory and how color affects mood & focal points
• Experience with Unreal Engine is a plus
This role is open to multiple locations in North America (including CA & WA).

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren't limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic's generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).
California Base Pay Range
$155,111 — $227,495 USD
Washington Base Pay Range
$148,060 — $217,154 USD
