PROGRAMMING - EPIC GAMES SERVICES
What We Do
Driving the plug-in power behind Unreal Engine 5. We bridge connections for licensees and our own internal game teams to online services. This allows games like Fortnite to utilize a combination of platform online services as well as Epic's own online services to build cross-platform online features. Login, parties, voice chat, matchmaking, purchasing, cloud storage, and analytics are just a few examples of online features that our Online Game Services team helps games utilize.
What You'll Do
As a senior backend programmer at Epic, you'll apply your backend expertise to tackle complex technical challenges with innovative solutions. Collaborating with Epic teams across the globe, you'll design, develop, and maintain high performance, secure and reliable micro-services in eCommerce specific domain areas such as checkout, payment, order processing, payout, subscription services, and more, delivering impactful solutions that power seamless online interactions for our users worldwide.
In this role, you will
• Design, implement, own, and iterate on scalable, secure, highly-available, backend services
• Maintain code quality internally and from outsourced partners
• Communicate technical risks within and across the group
• Handle various real-time, complex issues on online services and platform
• Maintain and improve operational excellence, including but not limited to observability, scaling, optimizing infrastructure, etc.
• Collaborate, own, and/or execute on product roadmaps, including but not limited to features, designs, milestones and deliverables
• Follow industry trends and maintain a strong interest in cutting edge technology
What we're looking for
• Passionate about building and maintaining consumer-facing online applications that are secure, scalable, and highly available
• 8 + years of experience in building online service or web systems
• Ability to collaborate and/or lead cross-functional efforts in ambiguous environments
• Deep knowledge of the object-oriented language (preferably Java), design and design patterns
• Deep knowledge of restful API design, implementation and database systems both relational and NoSQL database
• Experience of utilizing cache, messaging, async processing, etc. in online services and deploying and running services on a large scale and mission-critical environment
• Experience with cloud technologies, preferably AWS cloud services, Unix flavored O/S and a continuous integration / continuous delivery environment
• Experience in building messaging platforms is a plus but not required
• Experience building scalable distributed systems
• Experiencing collaborating alongside stakeholders and other SMEs
This role is open to multiple locations in North America (including WA).

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren't limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic's generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).
Washington Base Pay Range
$202,965 — $297,682 USD
