Job Description
ENGINEERING - EPIC GAMES SERVICES
What We Do
Driving the plug-in power behind Unreal Engine 5. We bridge connections for licensees and our own internal game teams to online services. This allows games like Fortnite to utilize a combination of platform online services as well as Epic's own online services to build cross-platform online features. Login, parties, voice chat, matchmaking, purchasing, cloud storage, and analytics are just a few examples of online features that our Online Game Services team helps games utilize.
What You'll Do
Epic Games is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer, Safety Platform, to develop and improve platforms that protect our users and players on a global scale. Your work will have a direct impact on the health of our community and the success of Epic products and partners who depend on them. We're especially interested in engineers who have built highly scalable backend systems in safety-adjacent domains (e.g., content moderation, anti-abuse, identity, fraud, risk, enforcement, or policy tooling). Content moderation experience is a plus, but not required. In this role, you'll build services and infrastructure with a strong awareness of how architectural decisions impact user safety, privacy, and trust. You're a self-starter who thrives in ambiguity, is outcomes-focused, and builds alignment across teams to deliver measurable improvements.
In this role, you will
• Design, build, and own highly scalable backend services that power safety and enforcement capabilities
• Serve as a code owner for multiple services and codebases, contributing directly and leading by example
• Partner closely with engineers, QA, product managers, and stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver well-architected solutions
• Drive operational excellence: reliability, observability, incident response, and continuous improvement
• Participate in code reviews and raise the bar for engineering quality, maintainability, and security
• Identify and execute opportunities to simplify systems, reduce risk, and improve performance and developer velocity
What we're looking for
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building highly available services
• Strong experience designing and operating distributed systems, APIs, and service deployments in production
• Expert knowledge of Go (Golang) for backend services
• Experience with modern DevOps toolchains and practices (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD such as GitHub Actions)
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code (AWS preferred)
• Strong communication skills and a track record of effective cross-functional collaboration
• User-focused and pragmatic: solutions-oriented, and able to make sound tradeoffs
Note to Recruitment Agencies: Epic does not accept any unsolicited resumes or approaches from any unauthorized third party (including recruitment or placement agencies) (i.e., a third party with whom we do not have a negotiated and validly executed agreement). We will not pay any fees to any unauthorized third party. Further details on these matters can be found here.
