What You'll Do

We are seeking an experienced Lead Gameplay Programmer to direct the gameplay technical approach for a main internal project in the Fortnite ecosystem. They will be responsible for driving the gameplay programming team, collaborating and iterating between gameplay programmers, designers, and artists. They will play a critical role in driving future gameplay systems within the Fortnite ecosystem.

In this role, you will
• Mentor and coach a team of gameplay engineers, and be the primary hub of communication and information for other disciplines
• Distill high-level feature requests into meaningful, actionable work items, and delegate to the team effectively
• Deliver core gameplay features in an efficient and timely manner, and speak up when the team is over or under-scoped
• Lead the vision for different gameplay systems and features, and propose and review architecture, systems, and technical approaches to ensure that they satisfy both the surface-level and deeper, programming-specific requirements
• Jump in and participate in writing code when necessary

What we're looking for
• Experience developing games professionally, and shipping AAA titles (on multiple platforms preferred)
• Experience leading a team of gameplay programmers within a shipped AAA title
• Strong C++ skills and the ability to code and architect gameplay mechanics and tools
• Strong analytical abilities with creative problem-solving skills, excelling in thinking innovatively and finding unique solutions
• Experience working on a live service game
• Experience with Unreal Engine 5
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

This role is open to multiple locations in North America (including CA).

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren't limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic's generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).

California Base Pay Range

$190,010 - $278,682 USD
