Job Description
ONLINE INFRASTRUCTURE
What We Do
The Identity team owns the services that are the gateway to the Epic Games ecosystem for developers and players of all ages. Our Identity platform grants access to first party game titles like Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys, as well as third-party developers leveraging Epic Online Services. The Identity team solves key problems in authentication, authorization, account management, child safety & parental controls, account linking, account security & recovery, data privacy, and more. Because of the critical nature of these services, we often meet with lawyers, executives, security, and/or external stakeholders to create great account experiences for all.
What You'll Do
Epic Games is looking for a Engineering Lead to manage a newly formed team within the Identity Engineering organization. This team will be responsible for core services that power our authentication / authorization experiences and enable users to personalise and control their accounts. The services that your team is responsible for are used both by other services around Epic and also by the end users to personalise their accounts.
In this role, you will
• Collaborate closely with engineers, producers, QA, and product owners to ensure high-quality deliverables and consistent technical alignment within the Identity team
• Help define and influence the product roadmap while managing a team working across a diverse set of projects
• Ensure the timely delivery and quality of day-to-day output from your team
• Provide technical leadership, drive operational excellence, and offer architectural guidance
• Support and manage the performance and career growth of your team members
• Serve as a secondary on-call escalation point to support engineers in incident response and coordination during large-scale issues
• Take ownership of outcomes - be accountable for the solutions your team delivers, and remain adaptable in the face of ambiguity
What we're looking for
• 4–6+ years of foundational experience as an individual contributor working on high-scale microservices
• 3+ years of experience as a people manager, with responsibility for at least 3 direct reports
• Demonstrated experience designing and delivering user-facing systems at scale, with a strong understanding of how backend services impact end-user experience
• Ability to provide architectural guidance and review technical designs produced by your team
• Strong people leadership skills, including successfully guiding teams through periods of growth and change
• Hands-on experience with our core tech stack: Java, AWS, Redis, MongoDB, DynamoDB, and Terraform
• Familiarity with both agile and waterfall methodologies, and the judgment to apply the right one for the situation
• Experience collaborating closely with upstream mobile teams and cross-functional engineering stakeholders
• Background in authentication technologies or identity platforms is a plus, but not a strict requirement
