News Operations Manager

Job Description

Assists Director of News and Programming in all phases of the management of the News and Programming Department, with an emphasis on daily and long-term story selection and coverage planning.
Oversees training and supervision of news anchors, editors, writers, and production assistants; planning for coverage of scheduled and breaking news stories, special events, news series and documentaries; hiring and training. Participates in regular review and aircheck sessions of all on air talent. Participates in regular training sessions with all editors, producers, writers and production assistants.
Oversees special events, including but not limited to live remotes, community events and station promotional activities and events. Assists in management of news equipment including remote technology and fleet of news cars. Participates in regular training for station's EAS system.
On-call as needed for evening and weekend news coverage.
Occasional night and weekend work possible.

Qualifications:

College degree with a minimum of five years of experience in large or major market newsroom. A thorough knowledge of news operations. Experience in news management preferred.

A valid driver's license, satisfactory completion of a motor vehicle record check, and, if hte position requires use of applicant's own vehicle, proof of insurance is required.
