Associate News Editor, Parents

Dotdash Meredith is seeking a full-time Associate News Editor to join the editorial team at Parents, one of the largest and most well-respected parenting brands on the internet. We are looking for a digitally-savvy family and parenting enthusiast with top-tier communication and editorial skills to take our news program to the next level.

In this role, you will report to and work closely with the Senior News Editor and the News Editor at Parents to execute our news strategy that drives growth on organic and extended platforms.

The ideal candidate is a goal-oriented, digital-first editor with a deep understanding of what makes high-quality, credible, shareable content for today's families and has values deeply rooted in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Previous experience working in a fast-paced environment is a must. May require flexible hours and occasional weekend days.

About Your Contributions:
• Stay on top of trending news with a focus on viral social stories and pop culture trends as well as research studies, health-related policy changes, and more in the family and parenting space to inform new content ideas.
• Contribute to daily news calendar and pitch, assign, edit, and write (as needed) new content based on best practices, brand voice and values, and current goals and strategy.
• Participate in all team meetings, especially news standups, where team members can align on priorities and our brand approach to news coverage.
• Help Senior News Editor develop our strategy about the types of news we cover, from breaking recalls to trending social stories to new repeatable franchises.
• Work with the Senior News Editor, News Editor, and Social Media team to execute processes to review feedback from social media insights to inspire new content or update existing content to drive even more social traffic and engagement.
• Partner with social media and email teams on creative ways to promote news content across our social accounts and newsletter sends.
• Report and write news stories as needed, particularly to capitalize on fast-turnaround content, and update existing news stories as new information emerges, ensuring the quality and accuracy of our reporting.
• Support News Team in tracking and analyzing content performance, using social feedback loops, data insights, and competitive analysis.
• Partner regularly with cross-functional teams, including growth, visual assets, email, social, communications, and more.

About You:
• 2 years experience developing and editing digital news content, ideally with a focus on parenting, health, or lifestyle content
• Proficient on a wide variety of social platforms with an eye for trending social and pop culture content
• Strong editorial skills with an eye for good writing, solid research and reporting, and a keen sense of what content works well online
• Organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven with proven experience of assigning articles and managing writers and a track record of top editing stories with a quick turnaround
• Creative with fresh ideas for building user-first digital content, and the ability to talk through visual concepts with visual editors
• Proactive, flexible, and enthusiastic team player with strong interpersonal communication skills, cultural competence, and the ability to partner with others with empathy and shared motivation
• Passionate and knowledgeable about all things families care most about-you stay on top of the news, trends, and latest research, can identify topics of interest for our audiences, and recognize the nuances and perspectives that will help us create content from an intersectional lens
• Solid understanding of current SEO best practices to inform editorial decisions and analytical skills to identify growth opportunities and measure performance
• Experience using digital publishing tools like content management systems, SEO research tools, analytical tools including Google Analytics, and task management tools like Google Sheets and Airtable
